Who We Are FLS
Energy, based in Asheville, NC, is a solar energy generation company
whose mission is to establish solar as a mainstream technology. We
have brought together a team of solar energy specialists and experts to
provide our clients with over 100 years of clean energy and
sustainability experience. FLS Energy specializes in solar energy
systems that provide hot water and electricity to our clients as a
hedge against rising energy costs and a clean source of energy.
| Who We Serve Our
clients and project partners range from Fortune 500 companies to small
businesses. At FLS Energy we work in partnership with all of our
customers to design, develop and install systems that will meet their
particular needs. We take pride in our relationships and work hard to
deserve the trust our customers place in us.
| Experience and Qualifications FLS Energy has the capacity to install a range of solar energy systems from small commercial solar thermal and photovoltaic applications to utility scale solar farms. We provide complete in-house system design and engineering. Our systems are turn-key and are implemented by our designers, installers and project managers to insure every client receives the same level of quality the market has come to expect from FLS Energy. |
Solar collector panels containing a heat transfer fluid are installed on the roof at a favorable angle to the sun. Pipes lead from the panels to the hot water tank, where the heat is transferred to provide tremendous amounts of hot water. Even in winter, hot water temperatures can reach 180º. Solar hot water systems are usually designed to provide 80% of the processes overall hot water needs over the course of a year.
As a mature technology, solar hot water is among the most cost-effective means of supplying energy to a building. It is less expensive than grid-based sources of electricity including coal, nuclear, and natural gas. Solar hot water use has doubled in the United States over the last ten years, and it is an ideal application for recreation centers, jails, restaurants, hotels, dormitories, laundromats, and other buildings that are dependent on large quantities of hot water.

Solar photovoltaic (PV) collector modules are made of two semiconducting layers, one of which is positively charged, while the other is negatively charged. When sunlight strikes the solar cell, the negatively charged electrons are activated. The free electrons flow towards the positive semi-conducting layer, creating an electric current. This direct current is then converted to an alternating current by an inverter so it can be used for all the same applications as grid power. If electricity is generated beyond immediate needs, excess energy may be sold to the local utility or stored in batteries.
To maximize energy production solar panels should face south and be tilted towards the sun. However, solar modules generate significant amounts of energy even when flat on a roof or angled anywhere from southeast to southwest.
